CMPT 01 BY LICHEN NYC FOR KARIMOKU

For the past year and a half we've been designing and developing a collection of furniture alongside the engineers and craftsmen at Karimoku Japan from the ground up.

The exhibition “CMPT 01 by Lichen for Karimoku“ will feature prototypes from both
projects, presented in a space designed for compact urban living. Centered around the launch of “CMPT
by Lichen,” the installation explores how furniture can merge functionality with aesthetics in small-space
environments.

Biome: a design week showcase

Join us on the afternoon of Friday, May 23rd for Biome: a design assemblage curated by Lichen featuring Malcolm Ransome, Reginald Sylvester II, Steffany Tran, Yuxuan Huang. 

Drawing reference from the ecological community type, formed in response to its physical environment and regional climate, this year’s Biome consists of members in our network whose work is emerging in the space of past meets present.

Meet the designers and view their works Friday 5/23 from 12-5pm + an abridged viewing of select pieces from each designer will be on view during our weekend showroom hours: Saturday 5/24 & Sunday 5/25, 12-5pm.

30/60/90 (re)launch party with Chinatown Records x Grace Hwang

We’re popping back open our 90’s time capsule to (re)launch the Chinatown Records x Grace Hwang 30/60/90 box set! Bringing together DJ historian yiuyiu 瑤瑤 of Chinatown Records and designer Grace Hwang, gather with us in the Lichen living room for a sonic listening, talk, and celebration back in time to the era that birthed these 90’s babies.

30/60/90 is a triple-CD box set homage to yiuyiu’s 30th, dad’s 60th, and grandma’s 90th birthdays in 2023. Loaded with 90’s Chinese songs ripped from the Chinatown Records archive and woven with family oral histories, each CD soundtracks a sonic ride from daytime to nighttime to dreamtime. Handmade with love from start to finish, 30/60/90 is a time portal back to an era when these two 90’s babies burned countless CDs, designed each label, and assembled each jewel case by hand to slip into friends’ lockers and pop into the car for long sunny and deep night drives.

Chinatown Records 華埠錄音is a homegrown community effort to celebrate the sonic tapestry of music, memory, & history that comes with inherited family collections. Homebased in NYC’s Manhattan Chinatown, DJ historian yiuyiu 瑶瑶 takes on her childhood name to care for & activate the Chinatown Records archive of over 30 record/CD/tape collections inherited from her family & neighbors. Spanning across Chinatown block parties, sonic histories, living room listenings, & beyond, Chinatown Records 華埠錄音 is an ever-growing record of the people we love, who bring all this music to life with us.
